Two Poker Outlets Possibly for Sale
Two well respected and popular poker outlets, Poker Channel and Poker Heaven, are reportedly being put up for sale by their owner Gaming Media Group. Gaming Media Group was founded by Crispin Nieboer and Shaun Barron alongside a group of venture capitalists in 2005. Gaming Media Group is reportedly looking for close to 25 million euros for the two media outlets.
The group who purchases these outlets will be able to recoup that money without many problems if the purchaser continues to build the reputation of the two outlets and make them even more popular than they already are at the time.
Some of the possible bidders for the media outlets include 888 Holdings, Full Tilt Poker, Party Gaming, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes. There is also interest from companies based in Asia and other foreign areasbut no specifics were released about those companies interested. Poker Heaven belongs to a 48-site IPN/Boss Media Poker Network that has Paradise Poker and Yahoo Poker in the United Kingdom. The IPN/Boss Media Poker Network is the seventh largest in the world according to PokerScout.com. Poker Heaven is due to make 1.5 million euros in 2010 from revenues over 11.3 million euros. Poker Heaven also has a television outlet known as PokerHeavenTV.com, which uses much of the material created for The Poker Channel.
Many experts in the poker industry believe that The Poker Channel will be the more desirable of the two media outlets in this attempted sale. The Poker Channel operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week, being broadcast across all of Europe in 20 different countries. Itreaches close to 17 million viewers. The Poker Channel airs all kinds of poker tournaments including the Irish Open, the Grosvenor U.K. Poker Tour, and the Great British Poker Tour. The Poker Channel also has contracts to broadcast the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour.
The Poker Channel also builds its popularity through its online presence. In 2008, Gaming Media Group decided to launch the website again, with the URL of PokerChannelEurope.com. The website provides poker players tutorial videos on how to play poker, segments of tournaments, and cash games that have been aired on The Poker Channel. PokerChannelEurope.com is one of the top 30,000 sites in countries in Europe such as the United Kingdom, Israel, and Malta. All of these stats are courtesy of Alexa.com and PokerScout.com.
