Playing the game of blackjack can come easy to some and incredibly difficult to others. Learning how to play various hands successfully can mean the difference between winning a match and losing a match. It can also mean the difference between picking up a major prize pot and losing almost an entire bankroll. One of those types of hands that Blackjack players need to learn how to play to be successful is a hard hand. A hard hand is defined as any hand that does not contain an Ace. Playing a hard hand the right way will give a player maximum value on every play while also reducing the House Edge considerably.

If the player is dealt an 8 or less the player should always hit that hand. The player should double down if dealt a 9 and the dealer is holding a 3, 4, 5 or 6. If the dealer is showing any other value of card then the player should hit. If the player is dealt a 10 and the dealer is holding a 2-10 then the player should double down. If the dealer has given himself any other card the player should hit their hand.

If the player has been dealt an 11 that player should double down if the dealer has a 2-10, but if the dealer has an Ace the player should hit their hand. If the player has been dealt a 12 then he or she should hit their hand if the dealer comes up with a 2 or a 3. The player should stand if the dealer is showing a 4, 5, or 6. If the dealer has any other card the player should then hit their hand.

If the player has been dealt a 13, 14, 15 or 16 the player should always stand if the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 and the player should hit if the dealer has any other card in his or her hand. The player should always stand their hand if they have a 17, 18, 19, 20 or 21. The best tip to use when playing Blackjack is knowing when to stop playing the game. Do not keep playing and playing when really a player should have cashed in their chips and left the table because this is a recipe for disaster.
