Plans for Foxwoods Casino
The plans for Foxwoods Casino, to be built in the state of Pennsylvania in the City of Brotherly Love, have been outlined by Stephen A. Wynn. Wynn will visit the state capital, Harrisburg, to outline to the Gaming Control Board his plans for the Foxwoods Casino. Wynn is the chairman of Wynn Resorts. Wynn claims that the casino he wishes to build in Philadelphia will be the “cutest casino you have ever seen.” Wynn Resorts signed a letter of intent that outlines their plans to help the struggling Foxwoods Casino project. Foxwoods is at risk of losing its license because of delays since receiving its license in 2006, only one of two licenses awarded by the city of Philadelphia.
The site where the Foxwoods Casino is to be located is Columbus Boulevard, with original plans calling for the construction of a hotel. Wynn does not plan on building a hotel on that site. Instead, his plans focus mainly on building a casino, not a destination resort. Wynn did not provide a ton of details about the casino, except that it would be one story, with multiple levels of parking on either side of the building. Wynn said the building will include 3,000 slot machines, a steak house, an Italian restaurant, an Asian restaurant, a poker room, and table games. Wynn had the following to say about the location and his plans:
“I’m happy to say we’re feeling very good about it and the building will not look like slots in a box. It will have all the bells and whistles of a good-looking casino. I love the proximity of the Vietnamese neighborhood, and I’m going to put in a Vietnamese restaurant for them.”
Wynn Resorts posted a net income of $20.6 million in 2009 on revenue of $3 billion. The company would take over the operation of the casino from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe. The tribe also operates the Foxwoods Casino in southeastern Connecticut, which is the flagship casino of the company. The tribe, along with local investors, would maintain a stake in the casino in Philadelphia but not a majority stake. Local opposition to the casino has been extremely heavy, with locals asking to have the site of the casino moved to Center City. The original waterfront location of the casino was deemed the final and permanent spot for the Foxwoods Casino. Wynn ran the Golden Nugget casino in Atlantic City between 1980 and 1987.

I am absolutely thrilled Foxwoods is opening a casino in Pennsylvania. I’ve lived in Philly for most of my life and the city could use a few more places to entertain myself and my friends. Not only will the city benefit from it because of more jobs, but the tribe will benefit too. It’s a win win!!!
Definitely gonna check that place out. I hope they’ll serve cheesesteaks tableside.
