Pippa Flanders a Winner Again

Pippa Flanders, an up and coming poker star in not only the United States but also around the world, has won another major event. This time Flanders won the PartyPoker Women’s World Open IV by defeating fellow countrywoman Helen Firth, both from England. The tournament cost $3,000 to buy-in and featured 24 of the world’s finest poker players. The tournament took two days to play and included the inaugural winner of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event Annette “Annette 15″ Obrestad. Other notable contestants in this tournament included Team PartyPoker pro and ‘High Stakes Poker’ commentator Kara Scott, the tournament’s defending champion Aisling Collins, runner-up Kim Wooka, the PartyPoker Women’s Open II champion Soraya Homam, Christine Klecz and Maria Demetriou. All of these women were eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the tournament but the final table was still an incredibly epic battle.

Both Flanders and Firth tended to dominate the action from the beginning of the six handed final table. Tatjana Pasalic, from Croatia, was on hand to hand out awards to the contestants but found herself playing her way into the final table. She wound up being the first woman to depart the final table at the hands of Firth. Claire Renaut, the French journalist, was eliminated by Flanders, finishing the tournament in fifth place while Pasalic finished the tournament in sixth place. The fourth place finisher in the tournament was yet another journalist, Eliza Burnett, which was the same spot she finished in at the PartyPoker Women’s World Open II. The third place finisher was Carline Cove, who entered the final table with the chip lead, leaving just Flanders and Firth for heads up play.

Flanders had the following to say about the final table of the tournament:

“That was a wild merry-go-round. It’s absolutely brilliant to have won – this really is so special to me. I would hate to lose Eemore – he brings me such good luck!”

In 2006, Flanders won the PartyPoker World Open II, for a prize package of $200,000 which at the time was the largest pot for a female European poker player. The final standings looked like the following:

1. Pippa Flanders (UK) – $30,000
2. Helen Firth (UK) – $15,000
3. Caroline Cove (UK) – $10,000
4. Eliza Burnett (UK) – $8,000
5. Claire Renaut (France) – $6,000
6. Tatjana Pasalic (Croatia) – $3,000

This tournament airs each year on England’s Five Network and will be available for international broadcast after its premiere in the United Kingdom.
