How to Count Cards
Blackjack players and poker players alike know what it takes to win at their respective games. Sometimes players need advantages over their opponents and will employ the skill of counting cards to win hands and tournaments. Counting cards in a game of blackjack is the ability to keep track of high cards over low cards in a deck that has yet to be dealt. The difficult thing with counting cards is that this is a system that does not allow the use of a pen or piece of paper to physically write down what the player is working on when counting. To count cards the player must have an excellent memory or else he or she will be up a river without a paddle.
Many blackjack games can be played with more than one deck, which means that players will need to work on counting the cards of more than one deck at a time. This can be incredibly difficult to do if the player is just learning how to count cards. It takes a lot of learning, practice, and discipline for a player to learn how to properly count cards. Learning to count cards will fail for a player if he or she has a lack of interest in the system.
The first thing needed to count cards is a basic understanding of the game, its strategies, and the rules of the game itself. The next thing the player must do once strategies are memorized is to memorize the values of every card in the deck. all face cards such as the King, Queen, and the Jack all have a value of 10. An Ace is worth either a 1 or an 11. The face cards and the Ace are worth -1 points while 2 to 6 are worth +1 points. Cards 7 to 9 are worth 0 points. This system is based on the Hi-Lo system.
Players can improve their card counting skills by practicing as much as possible. The player can get a timer and time themselves to see how long it takes for them to count an entire deck of cards. The more practice they get the quicker they can become when counting cards. If the player can count the whole deck in a matter of 25 seconds then he or she will be ready for live game action in a casino. Dealers will not wait for a player to count cards or figure out value so timing is everything.
